How to apply

Wrap your board.

All you need is a table, a hair dryer, a craft knife and a little patience.

Wrapping skis? Same process, one ski at a time. Ski notes ↓

Before you start

What you’ll need

In the box

  • Your Tego wrap
  • A squeegee
  • Alcohol wipes

You’ll also need

  • A craft knife with a fresh blade, or a single-edge razor blade
  • A hair dryer
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • Glass cleaner, like Windex
  • Paper towels or a microfiber cloth
  • A Phillips screwdriver

Prep the board

  1. Work on a table, not the floor. Use a hard, clean surface like a dining table or counter. Peeling the backing paper builds static, and static pulls dust onto the adhesive.
  2. Take your bindings off.
  3. Clean the top of the board. Remove old stickers and any leftover glue, then wipe it down with glass cleaner until there’s no dirt, oil or wax left.
  4. Wipe it with alcohol. Go over the whole top with one of the alcohol wipes from the box and let it dry completely.

Step by step

Apply your wrap

A fresh blade, a steady hand and a little patience.

Part 1Position the wrap

  1. Lay the wrap over the board, backing paper still on, so the design covers the whole board.
  2. Make a hinge. Put a 3-inch piece of masking tape across the edge of the wrap at the middle of the board, taping it to the table. Do the same on the other side so the wrap can’t slide around.

Part 2Stick it down, half at a time

  1. Fold one half of the wrap back over the other half.
  2. Peel the backing. Peel the paper back to the hinge so that half’s adhesive is exposed, then cut the loose paper off with scissors.
  3. Lay it down. Hold the two outer corners and fold the wrap back over so it rests smoothly on the board.
  4. Squeegee from the middle out. Start at the hinge and work toward the tip, pushing from the center out to the edges. Any trapped air gets chased out the sides, leaving a smooth, bubble-free surface.
  5. Repeat steps 3 to 6 on the other half.
  6. Seal the edge. Run the squeegee all the way around the edge of the board so the wrap is stuck firmly to it.

Part 3Trim

  1. Cut along the edge. Hold the knife at a slight angle and use the edge of the board as your guide. Go around in smooth, controlled passes instead of short, jagged strokes, and be careful not to gouge or nick the edge of the board.
  2. Check the edges. Trim off any small pieces that still hang over. Loose bits are weak spots where snow and grit can get under the wrap.

Part 4Finish

  1. Warm it. Heat the whole top with the hair dryer until it’s warm, not hot. Run your hand or the squeegee over the surface and edges to make sure it’s stuck down with no bubbles.
  2. Let it cool.
  3. Open the binding holes. Feel for the binding inserts, poke through each one with a Phillips screwdriver and remount your bindings. If you’re not sure how your bindings should be set up, a board shop can mount them for you.

Wrapping skis

Your ski wrap comes as two strips, one for each ski. Apply each strip the same way, one ski at a time.

Ski bindings are adjusted to the skier, so have a shop take them off and remount them. If your skis are new and not mounted yet, wrap them before they go in for mounting.

If it starts to lift

If any part of the wrap comes loose while you’re riding, take the whole wrap off before your next run so it can’t snag or catch on anything.

Taking it off

Your wrap peels off cleanly whenever you want a new look. Peel it back slowly, keeping it low against the board.
